Alexander Zverev vs Yibing Wu prediction

Alexander Zverev is the top seed at the Shanghai Masters, and he will be looking to win the event for the first time. His best previous result is a runner up appearance in 2019, where he lost in the final to Daniil Medvedev. Zverev is set to become world number one for the first time in his career after Jannik Sinner announced that he would miss the remainder of the season through injury. It has already been a landmark season for the German, with his first two slams at Roland Garros and the US Open. He lost in the quarter-finals of the China Open to Novak Djokovic last time out.

Zverev faces Yibing Wu in his opening match. Wu advanced from the first-round after a straight sets win over Michael Zheng. The Chinese player was not broken throughout the entirety of the match as he won 6-3 7-6 (6). That was his first match on the tour since a third-round defeat at the US Open to Carlos Alcaraz.

A title-winning run here would put Zverev within touching distance of the world number one ranking, and he will be determined to make a strong start.
