Alexander Zverev is set to make his first appearance on the tour since winning his first Grand Slam title at the French Open. Zverev ended his elusive wait for a first major as he defeated Flavio Cobolli in five sets. The world number three now turns his attention to the grass court season and this event in Halle, with the German having reached the final here on two occasions in 2016 and 2017.
He faces Vit Kopriva in round one. The Czech lost in the second-round of Roland Garros to Martin Landaluce in five sets. Kopriva did pick up some encouraging results during the clay court season, which included a quarter-final appearance in Munich and a run to the round-of-16 in Madrid.
Kopriva does not have a strong record on grass, and he’s unlikely to trouble Zverev on this quick surface. The 29-year-old is the clear favourite to advance to the next round.
