Alexander Zverev vs Valentin Royer prediction
Alexander Zverev could only make the quarter-finals of the China Open last time out, as he lost to familiar foe Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Zverev is currently plagued by a back injury, which prevented him from practicing for two weeks after his third-round US Open defeat. This season has been a disappointing one for Zverev overall, with just one title and a series of poor results after losing the final of the Australian Open at the start of the year.
Valentin Royer came from a set down to beat Mariano Navone in the first-round as he continued his strong form. The French qualifier reached his first final on the ATP Tour in Hangzhou last week and is now at his highest ranking of 76 in the world.
Zverev is clearly not at his best physically, which may provide some hope for Royer in this second-round clash. Nevertheless, the German still possesses a strong hard court game, and even though he may be tested by the in-form Frenchman, he will be a clear favourite.
