The top two seeds will battle for the title when Alexander Zverev faces off with Taylor Fritz in the Stuttgart Open final.

The German will hope the home support can propel him to a maiden title on grass and end a run of four straight defeats against the American. 

Zverev edged third seed Ben Shelton 7-6 7-6 in the last four while Fritz claimed a 6-4 7-6 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

This will be the 13th meeting between the pair with Fritz leading 7-5 but trailing 2-1 on grass (all three at Wimbledon).

Two of the three matches on the turf have gone five sets while the other was a four-set tussle.

It suggests this could be another close affair with Zverev’s desire to belatedly land a title on grass as well as being able to call upon the vast majority of the support, providing a strong rationale for backing him to end a losing streak against his opponent.
