Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton prediction

Alexander Zverev will be aiming for a third ATP Finals triumph, having won the event in 2018 and 2021. He last competed at the Paris Masters as the defending champion. He saved a match point to end a five-match losing streak to rival Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals but was completely blown away by Jannik Sinner in the last four, winning just a solitary game as he struggled physically. It’s been a tough year for Zverev, who suffered a huge downturn in form after losing his third Grand Slam final at the Australian Open in January. He has won just one tournament all season, and that was a 500 event in Munich.

He takes on Ben Shelton, who makes his maiden appearance at the event this year. Shelton made strides this season, collecting the first Masters 1000 title of his career at the Canadian Open while also reaching his second Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open.

Zverev dominates the head-to-head, winning all four of their matches and dropping just the one set. They have played three times this season, with the German winning in Munich, Stuttgart and Cincinnati, all on different surfaces.

This is clearly a matchup that Zverev enjoys, and his recent indoor record is still solid, having made the Vienna Open final a fortnight ago and ended his losing streak against Medvedev in Paris. As long as he is fit and firing, he should be able to get his campaign off to a winning start.
