Alexander Zverev has won this event twice before in 2018 and 2021 and he will be hoping to do well once again this time around. He has won two titles this year in Rome and Paris, and the latter just a couple of weeks ago will have boosted his confidence and belief coming into this one. He may have gone another year without winning a Grand Slam, but the win in Paris showed he is ending the year in good form and as capable as ever.
He meets Andrey Rublev who also won two titles this year in Hong Kong and Madrid. The Russian 27-year-old reached the semis in 2022 at this event but that is the furthest he has gone. He has been extremely active in 2024 and typically inconsistent, but he will be eager to spring an upset or two as the eighth seed this week.
The pair have met nine times before and it is Zverev that leads the head-to-head with six wins. The last meeting came at this event last year in the groups and it was Zverev who won that 6-4 6-4. With form firmly on Zverev’s given his win in Paris, we fully expect him to pick up another here and get off to a winning start.
