Alexander Zverev vs Alexei Popyrin prediction
Alexander Zverev registered his first win over Francisco Cerundolo as the Argentine retired in the second set due to an abdominal strain. Zverev was leading 6-4 1-0. This victory lifted the world number three above Novak Djokovic in the Race to Turin and he’s now just three matches away from an eighth Masters title.
He will face Alexei Popyrin who kept his hopes alive of a second successive Canadian Open with another comeback win. He dropped the first set to Holger Rune but came roaring back to win 4-6 6-2 6-3 and extended his winning run in the competition to nine matches. He was 0/11 for break points in the first set but he continued to apply pressure on Rune’s service games, winning 4-6 6-2 6-3. He hammered down14 aces and 13 forehand winners.
Zverev leads the head-to-head 3-0, 2-0 on hard courts and hasn’t dropped a set against the Australian. Popyrin is a dogged competitor and could run Zverev close, but the German should have enough to come through.
