Alexander Bublik continues to break new ground having reached the third round at the Australian Open for the first time.

The Kazakhstani’s sensational 2025 means he now sits at a career-high of ten in the world and he looks to have found his groove again here, posting straight sets wins over Jenson Brooksby and Marton Fucsovics.

Bublik will now aim to reach the round of 16 at a major for just the fourth time, but perhaps more significantly, the third time in his last four Grand Slam appearances.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry has the firepower to put a spanner in the works of that dream with the Argentine happy to have had a straight-forward win over Great Britain’s Arthur Fery after a rollercoaster five-set opener versus Miomir Kecmanovic.

This will be their first tour-level meeting, although Bublik did win 7-5 in the third on clay in a Challenger in Turin last year.

It has the potential to go four or five sets here, but Bublik certainly has the greater momentum and Etcheverry’s bid to reach the last 16 at a major for only the second time - and the first since the 2023 French Open - is likely to end in disappointment.
