However, his level deserted him as a gritty Munar forced a decider and went an early break up. Bublik broke back straight away and edged ahead in another tiebreak to win 6-4 6-7 (4) 7-6 (3).
He now plays second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian extended his winning run to seven matches after defeating Tallon Griekspoor. The first set went on serve, with Auger-Aliassime showing his quality in the tiebreak. He raced clear in the second to win 7-6 (2) 6-2.
Auger-Aliassime leads the head-to-head 4-2 and 2-1 indoors. They last played each other in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters at the end of last year, with Auger-Aliassime comfortably winning in straight sets. The world number six has looked imperious in these conditions and hasn’t been broken in his last six matches. Bublik will need to be more proactive in his return games if he is to even have a chance.
