Alexander Blockx made a strong start in Jeddah as he recovered from losing the first set to defeat Justin Engel in his first group stage match. The young Belgian prevailed 3-4 (7) 4-2 4-2 4-2. It was a strong serving performance, as he won 85% of his first serve points, hammered down 17 aces and wasn't broken throughout the contest.

Nevertheless, Nishesh Basavareddy, his next opponent, will take huge confidence from his victory against Dino Prizmic in his first match. Despite being the lower-ranked player, the young American was in control for the majority of the match, winning 4-2 4-3 (7) 3-4 (3) 4-2. 

They have played on one previous occasion, with Blockx thrashing Basavareddy 6-2 6-1 in the second-round of the 2022 US Open juniors. This is likely to be a lot closer, but Blockx is clearly a rising talent and will fancy his chances of another win.
