Alex Michelsen reached the third-round of a Grand Slam for the second time in his career as he beat Nishesh Basavareddy in four sets. Michelsen was broken when serving for the first set but still took the lead after winning the tiebreak. He increased his advantage and while Basavareddy threatened a comeback in the third, Michelsen hit back with a dominant fourth set to seal a 7-6 (5) 6-3 3-6 6-3 win after three hours and 12 minutes.
He now faces Rafael Jodar. The Spanish teenager made it through to round three of a major for the first time as he beat James Duckworth. Jodar dropped his first set of the tournament as Duckworth squared the match up at one set apiece, and the Australian threatened an upset as he broke to go 3-2 up in the third. However, Jodar responded with a break in the very next service game and went on to win 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-4 7-5.
Jodar was not at his best in the previous round but showed all of his fighting qualities to pull through. His variety is likely to trouble Michelsen in this third-round match.
