Alex Michelsen decided not to participate in any warm-up events on grass in the leadup to Wimbledon. His last event was at Roland Garros, which saw him lose in five sets to Rafael Jodar in round three. The American has never won a match at SW19, having lost in the first-round in both 2024 and 2025.
He plays Jacob Fearnley in the first-round. Fearnley lost his opening match at Wimbledon last year to Joao Fonseca. He advanced to the final of the Ilkley Challenger earlier this month, losing to Bu Yunchaokete. A poor run of form over a considerable period of time has seen his ranking drop to outside of the top 150 in the world.
Fearnley is likely to raise his game in front of a home crowd, but Michelsen’s serve and his aggressive, flat groundstrokes translate well on this surface. If he is able to dictate a lot of the rallies, he should have too much for the Brit.
