Alex Michelsen vs Alex de Minaur Prediction
Alex Michelsen is in fine form in Melbourne and the 20-year-old is full of confidence after wins over 11th-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and 19th-seed Karen Khachanov. The manner of his win over Khachanov in the last round in straight sets will only boost his confidence yet further.
He now takes on Alex de Minaur who is the number eight seed and will offer his sternest test so far.
The Australian star has had a kinder schedule so far but he has done what he has needed to do to get to this stage. In the last round, he came back from losing the first set to Francisco Cerundolo to win the next three and win in four.
The pair have met twice before and they have won one match apiece. De Minaur won the last meeting which came in the French Open and only lost three total games in a straight-sets win. That was on clay which is arguably Michelsen’s weakest surface but it will give De Minaur confidence.
The Aussie has to be favoured to get the win here. Michelsen has been excellent so far and he should not be written off but De Minaur on home turf with the crowd firmly behind him, will take some beating.
