The American was 4-2 down in the first set but reeled off four games in a row to take the lead. Mannarino converted both of his break points and did not concede any on serve as he wrapped up a 7-5 6-4 win after one hour and 22 minutes.
Michelsen leads the head-to-head 2-1, but this will be their first meeting on a hard court. Mannarino performed brilliantly in his previous match, and he can frustrate with his unconventional approach, but Michelsen is the home favourite.
