Alex de Minaur begins his Wimbledon campaign against Roman Andres Burruchaga. He advanced to the round-of-16 last year, losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets on Centre Court. His season began strongly, with a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open followed up by a title in Rotterdam. However, his form has largely deteriorated since that point, with a number of early losses. He did reach the final of the Libema Open, but he lost to Kamil Majchrzak. He was also the top seed at Queen’s Club, losing in the quarter-finals to Brandon Nakashima.
Burruchaga has limited experience on grass and will be competing in the main draw at Wimbledon for the first time in his career. He did feature at a warmup event, losing in the first-round to Arthur Ferry at the Eastbourne Open.
De Minaur is the heavy favourite and this is likely to be a straight-forward victory for the Australian in the first-round.
