Alex de Minaur advanced to the third-round of the French Open without taking to the court after Alexander Blockx withdrew from the tournament following a training injury. De Minaur had beaten Toby Samuel in his first-round match.
He now plays Jakub Mensik. The Czech got through a gruelling five set match with Mariano Navone to book a meeting with De Minaur. Mensik, who won the Miami Open in 2025, needed eight match points to seal victory but eventually won 6-2 2-6 6-4 1-6 7-6 (11) after four hours and 41 minutes. The 20-year-old struggled with cramp after clinching the win and was attended to by members of the medical staff.
It’s difficult to see how Mensik can fully recover following such a physical encounter, especially when he’s going up against a well-rested De Minaur, who will look to extend the points to his advantage. The Australian also dominates the head-to-head as he leads 5-0 overall, and this is a fantastic opportunity to increase his streak to six.
