Alex de Minaur vs Brandon Nakashima prediction
Alex de Minaur continued the defence of his title at the Washington Open with a win over Cruz Hewitt. The 17-year-old, son of two-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one Lleyton, picked up his first tour-level victory in the opening round but he was no match for De Minaur, who wrapped up a 6-2 6-3 victory. He has now won seven straight matches at the event.
He will face Brandon Nakashima next. The American advanced after beating Jakub Mensik in a gripping three set encounter. Mensik was broken when serving to stay in the match, with Nakashima winning 7-6 (4) 3-6 6-4.
Nakashima leads 2-1 in the head-to-head, but De Minaur has won their only meeting on outdoor hard court. They faced each other just last month at Queen’s Club, with Nakashima producing an efficient display to beat the top seed in straight sets. He will be confident of repeating the feat, but De Minaur enjoys this event and will be out for revenge.
