Alex de Minaur extended his winning run against Denis Shapovalov to five matches as he comfortably defeated the Canadian to book his place in the quarter-finals of Queen’s Club. De Minaur reeled off the final six games and created 11 break point opportunities in total as he won 6-4 6-1 after one hour and four minutes.
He will now face Brandon Nakashima after he progressed to his second successive quarter-final at the event. Nakashima comfortably got past Ignacio Buse in the round-of-16. Buse, who won his first tour-level title in Hamburg last month, saved match points to win his first-round match against Marcos Giron, but he was under pressure from the start here as Nakashima won 6-2 6-2.
The head-to-head is 1-1 between the pair, but this is their first meeting on grass. This will be De Minaur’s toughest challenge of the week so far, and Nakashima should be able to make this a competitive quarter-final.
