Alex de Minaur vs Ben Shelton prediction

Alex de Minaur extended his winning run to eight matches after defeating Frances Tiafoe in a close three set match. The Australian made a storming start as he broke the Tiafoe serve twice in succession right at the start of the contest to take the set 6-2. Tiafoe managed to force a decider after De Minaur was broken when he was serving to stay in the second. A tight third set saw De Minaur crucially save two break points in game six and then break the Tiafoe serve at 4-4 to win again.

He will face Ben Shelton after the American staged a fine comeback in the deciding set to beat Flavio Cobolli. Shelton looked to be heading out of the tournament as Cobolli broke him in the fifth game of the third set and served for the match at 5-4, but he broke back and dominated the tiebreak to win 6-4 4-6 7-6.

Shelton showed fine grit and determination to force his way back into his fourth-round match, but he must cut down his unforced error count if he is to get past the ever-consistent De Minaur. The Australian is in fine form at the minute, but Shelton should not be counted out and is a threat to anyone when his serve is firing properly. This has all the makings of a close three set battle.

Alex de Minaur vs Ben Shelton tip: Both players to win a set
