Aleksandar Vukic saved two match points as he got past Corentin Moutet in a dramatic match to make the round-of-16 in Metz. Moutet looked to be on his way to victory in the deciding set tiebreak as he opened up a 5-1 lead, but the Australian fought back to win 3-6 7-6 (6) 7-6 (8) after two hours and 42 minutes. Vukic never broke the Moutet serve but still found a way to win.
He goes up against Matteo Berrettini next. The Italian comfortably booked his place in the next stage of the tournament with a straight sets win over Quentin Halys. He converted all three of his break points and wasn’t broken himself as he won 6-2 6-4.
This will be the first ATP match between the pair, though they have faced each other on the Challenger Tour twice before, with Berrettini winning both matches in straight sets. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist is getting more matches under his belt after his recent injury struggles and he’ll be expected to get through this one comfortably.
