Aleksandar Vukic continued his good form as he beat Zachary Svajda in straight sets to advance to the round-of-16 stage in Washington. The Australian did not face a break point throughout the entire match. He has now extended his winning run to eight matches, including qualifying, as he won a Challenger title in Granby earlier this month.
He will now face Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian marked his latest return from injury with a win over compatriot Matteo Arnaldi in the first-round. Arnaldi decided to retire in the second set due to injury, with Musetti leading 6-0 3-1. This was the 24-year-old’s first match since the Italian Open back in early May.
Musetti does lead the head-to-head 1-0 after a three set victory four years ago. Musetti will be expected to win, but he is only just making his return and Vukic is enjoying his best run of form for quite some time.
