Aleksandar Kovacevic vs Matteo Arnaldi prediction
Aleksandar Kovacevic qualified for the Vienna Open after winning two three set matches in close fashion. He ended a five match losing run in Stockholm last week, but still only made the second-round as he was defeated by Lorenzo Sonego. He had set point in the first set, but Sonego managed to save it and then won the tiebreak, before racing clear in the second to win 7-6 6-1. Kovacevic has made two finals on the ATP Tour this season along with a Challenger win, but his form has been poor for a while at this point.
He faces Matteo Arnaldi in the first-round. The Italian has also struggled in recent times but was also able to qualify for the tournament. His European indoors season began poorly in Brussels last week as he lost in the first-round to Yannick Hanfmann. There have still been highlights for Arnaldi this season, as he made the quarter-finals in Madrid and got through to the last four at Delray Beach. However, he has failed to win back-to-back main draw matches since the Washington Open in July.
Arnaldi leads the head-to-head 2-0 after two outdoor hard court wins but the indoor conditions may suit Kovacevic’s game more here, with the American having already reached a final on the surface this season in Marseille.
