Aleksandar Kovacevic comes into Cincinnati on the back of a three-set loss to Nuno Norges in the first round of the Montreal Open earlier this month. That was his sixth successive defeat since making it through the first qualifying round at Wimbledon.
Karen Khachanov enjoyed a decent run in London in July, beating Billy Harris and Yannick Hanfmann to reach the third round. Since then, he has been beaten by Bernard Tomic in the first round at Los Cabos and then by Terence Atmane in the first round in Montreal.
Neither player is in great form here but Khachanov, ranked 39th in the world, is the superior player and should be backed for a comfortable victory against Kovacevic.
