Aleksandar Kovacevic’s poor form continued in Shanghai as he lost in the first-round to Juncheng Shang in three sets. That extended the American’s winless run to five matches, and he will hope to improve his results before the end of the season. There have still been highlights, with Kovacevic winning two Challenger titles and making the final of two ATP Tour events in Montpellier and Los Cabos. Kovacevic performed well indoors during the earlier part of the season and a return to those conditions could suit him, as he searches for a much-needed victory.

The Argentine’s best results have been on his favoured clay, as he won the Rosario Challenger and reached four-semi finals on the ATP, all on that surface. He has lost nine of his 14 matches on hard court this season.
This is a strong opportunity for Kovacevic to end his losing run in the first-round.
