Toronto-born Alejandro Tabilo, who has represented Chile since 2017 after beginning his career by representing Canada, is the only seeded Chilean at the Chile Open. Tomas Barrios Vera comes into this one on the back of getting into the Rio Open as a Lucky Loser before suffering a 7-6, 7-5 loss to Matteo Berrettini in the first round at the Quadra Guga Kuerten. He began the month reaching the round of 16 of the Argentina Open, too, with a solid but a generally underwhelming start to the year overall.

This is a clash between compatriots, sort of, but it is not an even contest and Alejandro Tabilo is expected to ease himself into the second round in Santiago.
