Alejandro Tabilo reached the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open earlier this month before the final of the Rio Open, losing both matches to Tomas Martin Etcheverry. He comfortably defeated compatriot Tomas Barrios Vera in straight sets the other day.
Thiago Agustin Tirante was the quarter-final victim of Tabilo on his way to that Rio Open final, a week after Tirante had reached the quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger Manama event in Bahrain earlier this month.
Tirante has found some form and showed real resilience and composure to come from a set down to defeat Ignacio Buse with two tiebreak sets in the first round but Tabilo has to be viewed as the firm favourite.
