Alejandro Tabilo eased past Tomas Barrios Vera in the first round before coming from a set down to defeat Thiago Agustin Tirante in the round of 16. Tabilo had beaten Tirante in the quarter-finals of the Rio Open last week on his way to a hard-fought final loss to Tomas Martin Etcheverry in Brazil.
Number three seed Sebastian Baez succumbed to a very poor 7-5, 6-1 loss to Jaima Faria in the first round at the Rio Open and he needed to bounce back in Santiago. He managed to edge past Cristian Garin in a hard-fought contest in the second round the other day.
Alejandro Tabilo is in excellent form at the moment and is expected to kick on into the top 32 of the ATP rankings soon enough.
