Alejandro Tabilo continued his encouraging run of form with a straight sets win over Emilio Nava in the first-round of the Rio Open. He did not concede a break point on serve in the match and broke on three occasions as he won 6-3 6-3 after just an hour and three minutes. Tabilo defeated Joao Fonseca on his way to making the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open last week, while he also reached the final in Concepcion on the Challenger Tour.
He takes on Francesco Passaro in the next round. The Italian only entered the main draw as a lucky loser but defeated Dino Prizmic. The Croatian had won his last four matches but was largely outclassed by Passaro, who broke four times in total as he won 6-3 6-4.
Tabilo is a dangerous player on this surface and will look to take a hold of the rallies from the beginning of this one. He is the favourite as he aims for his third quarter-final in a row.
