Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Matteo Berrettini prediction

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina picked up his second title of 2026 with a superb performance in Chengdu.

The Spaniard took down Hubert Hurkacz to add the hardcourt triumph to his one on grass in Mallorca earlier in the year.

Foki will now attempt to go back-to-back by maintaining his momentum in Tokyo. Up first, it’s a third career meeting with Matteo Berrettini.

The match-up is tied at 1-1 with the Italian winning in five sets on hard at the 2022 US Open while the Spaniard triumphed in straight sets in Monte Carlo a year earlier. 

Berrettini has the power to always be a threat on a hardcourt but it’s also where his backhand can be exposed and his recent form has seen him win just two matches across the North American swing.

Foki’s potential fatigue could also be a factor, but we expect a decent number of games with Matteocoming up short in the end.
