Alejandro Davidovich Fokina marked his return to the tour with the second tour-level title of his career at the Chengdu Open. The Spaniard beat Hubert Hurkacz in the final. Davidovich Fokina then competed in Tokyo, but despite taking the first set with ease, he would lose in three to Matteo Berrettini in his opening match. It’s been a productive season for the 27-year-old, with two titles and a run to the round-of-16 at Wimbledon.

He received a bye in round one and now faces Jenson Brooksby. The American advanced after an impressive victory over Jaume Munar in the first-round. Munar had just reached the semi-finals at the Japan Open, but Brooksby broke at the end of set one and kept his composure to win 7-5 6-4.

Brooksby will take confidence from how he performed in that match, but he has struggled against higher ranked opposition throughout 2026. Davidovich Fokina is the firm favourite to win.
