Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be eying a first tour win over Flavio Cobolli in the round of 16.
The Spaniard cruised to a 6-3 6-3 success over Gael Monfils to set up a third clash with the Italian, who rallied well to sink lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko 5-7 6-2 6-2.
Cobolli won both of his matches with Foki on hard courts last year but the fifth seed did lose to the Spaniard in Rome qualifying back in 2021.
The surface may well be key to ADF’s hopes given his love for the clay, but Cobolli is equally adept on the dirt and did win a title in Bucharest not so long ago.
It’s another tough call that’ll come down to who is flowing more on the day and it may well go to the wire.
