Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Ben Shelton prediction

Ben Shelton returned to the last four in Washington with an impressive win over fellow-American Frances Tiafoe.

The fourth seed clinched a spot in his 11th tour-level semi-final courtesy of a 7-6 6-4 victory against his compatriot. 

Shelton will now meet Alejandro Davidovich Fokina after the Spaniard shocked top seed Taylor Fritz 7-6 3-6 7-5.

The American served for the match at 5-3 in the decider but Foki refused to lie down and won four games in a row to set a third career-meeting with Shelton.

The Spaniard leads the head-to-head 2-0, including a 6-7 6-2 6-1 win in Monte Carlo earlier this year. 

Shelton has been imperious this week but Davidovich Fokina continues to surprise. All indicators suggest the fourth seed is the one to place your bet on, but Foki will feel invincible after the way he saw off Fritz and it may be worth taking in the first set before parting with your cash.
