Alejandro Davidovich Fokina advanced to round two of the Paris Masters after getting past Valentin Royer in three sets. The Spaniard was broken in the seventh game of the first set and ended up going behind. However, Davidovich Fokina was not broken again and improved his level as he won 4-6 6-1 6-4 after one hour and 58 minutes.
He faces Arthur Cazaux next. The Frenchman delighted the home crowd as he beat the higher ranked Luciano Darderi in straight sets. Cazaux edged a tight first set and then came from 5-2 down in the second to win, sealing victory in another tiebreak. He won 7-6 (5) 7-6 (4) after two hours and eight minutes.
Davidovich Fokina leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win at the Atalanta Open in July 2024. Cazaux will have home support and is likely to apply pressure early on, but Davidovich Fokina has found form recently and should have enough to win.
