Ajla Tomljanovic vs Ekaterina Alexandrova prediction
Ajla Tomljanovic edged out Renata Zarazua in a tight three set match in the first-round. A see-saw encounter saw 15 breaks of serve overall. Tomljanovic was within touching distance of the next round after going 4-1 up in the decider but Zarazua fought back and ended up serving for the match twice. Tomljanovic dramatically saved all five match points and dominated the final set breaker to win a scarcely believable match 4-6 6-3 7-6 after exactly three hours.
Ekaterina Alexandrova enters the draw as the second seed and will face Tomljanovic in the round-of-16. She last competed in Cincinnati, losing in round four despite going a set up against Anna Kalinskaya. She fell away in the decider, but the world number 14 has enjoyed a strong season so far, with one title in Linz and four other semi-final appearances.
Alexandrova leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win over the Australian in Eastbourne six years ago, but this will be their first meeting on a hard court.
That previous match will have taken a lot out of Tomljanovic and she will find things tough against Alexandrova, who is a commanding favourite to win in straight sets.
