In Toronto, he successfully qualified for the event and got through to the second-round where he was defeated by Ben Shelton. Shelton went on to win the tournament. He fared even better in Cincinnati, winning five matches in a row as he qualified again and got through to the round-of-16. He tested world number one Jannik Sinner as he lost 6-4 7-6.
Meanwhile, Tallon Griekspoor is suffering from a period of poor form. He is without a win in four matches and has lost five of his last six since winning the Mallorca Championships on the eve of Wimbledon.
