Adrian Mannarino advanced in Shanghai after his first-round opponent Nikoloz Basilashvili retired in the second set. The Frenchman was leading 6-3 2-2. He will now face Flavio Cobolli for a place in round three.

Cobolli’s Asian swing began with an early exit in Beijing, as he was comprehensively beaten by Roman Safiullin.
