Daniil Medvedev will be aiming to fine-tune his US Open preparations in Cincinnati.

The 2019 champion will be keen to turn his season of 'nearly moments' into something more tangible on his favoured hardcourts and his latest attempt pits him against Australia’s Adam Walton for the first time.

The world number 85 has found some much-needed form since Wimbledon and made it five wins from his last seven by taking down Mariano Navone 4-6 7-6 6-1 in the first round.

In years gone by this would be a sure-fire pick for Medvedev to cruise through in straight sets, but the Russian has become somewhat unpredictable with double faults proving something of a curse at crunch moments.

That said, we still expect the 12th seed to be too strong in all areas against the Aussie underdog.
