The winning country of this event is likely to be Japan with the Japanese Olympic team, who have slowed down in terms of medal collection in recent days, expected to pick up the gold and the silver but the order of their athletes is unknown.
15-year-old Misugu Okamoto will come into this event as the favourite due to her excellent performances in recent years whereby she won the World Skate Championships in Sao Paulo in 2019 as well as the X Games in Minneapolis in the same year. Her main competitor will be compatriot Sakura Yosozumi.
The other podium position could well also go to Japan with Kokona Hiraki competing at a good level but Team GB’s main medal hope, Sky Brown, remains in a strong position to medal in this event. 13-year-old Brown finished third in the aforementioned 2019 World Skate Championships but improved upon that with a second-place finish on the Dew Tour in Des Moines in 2021. She is yet to win a major event, though.
TSZ’S PREDICTION
It is an odd one to describe a 15-year-old athlete as being experienced but Okamoto’s recent record of winning a couple of major events mean she will come into this as the favourites. Japan will be favourites for gold and silver regardless.
