WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

The quarter-finals and semi-finals of this event happen just prior to the final so there's a chance that the leading contenders will have already been eliminated by the time of the final if there is a surprise,

However, the current favourite for the event comes in the shape and form of Emma Hinze of Germany. Hinze has already earned a silver medal in the women’s Team Sprint final during this Olympic games.

The number one Keirin race in the world according to the UCI rankings is Martha Bayona Pineda of Colombia and she has missed out on the quarter-finals of the event this time round so Wai Sze Lee of Hong Kong will come in as the highest ranked competitor.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

None of the three medalists from this event in Rio in 2016 will be taking part this time so it is a relatively open field from that point of view. However, there is a fairly clear favourite. Emma Hinze’s gold medal in Berlin in the 2020 world championships has inserted her as the likeliest candidate to take gold here.

TSZ Tip: EMMA HINZE (Germany) TO WIN
