WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

Great Britain won this event in Rio in 2016, in London in 2012 and in Beijing in 2008 but it does look like this might be the end of that record. In the five years since the last Olympics, the Dutch have overtaken Team GB to such an extent that this event appears to be a foregone conclusion and it is a battle for the silver medal.

The two leading cyclists for each team includes the gold an silver medalist from the men’s Keirin in Rio in 2016. Jason Kenny is leading Team GB’s charge whilst Matthijs Buchli won the silver in that individual event five years ago and he forms part of the Dutch team that broke the world record in February 2020.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

As much as this is an event dominated by Great Britain, it is an event that appears to be on the verge of changing hands. The Netherlands are fully expected to take the gold medal with Team GB and France likely to be the teams battling it out for a podium finish.
