WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?
Jamaica, led by Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, have dominated this event in recent Olympic games and the Jamaicans maintain the world and Olympic record that was set in London in 2012. They come into this final as the fastest qualifiers in the semi-final with a time of 37.82 seconds. Despite lacking the greatest sprinter of all time in Bolt, they will still have Yohan Blake as they go for their third successive gold medal in this event.
The other main competitors for the gold in this contest will be the impressive qualifiers in the second heat who required a photo finish to separate them. China, Canada and Italy all ran in under 38 seconds with Team GB qualifying at 38.02 seconds.

Despite the impressive race in the second heat, it will probably be a concern for those three countries. That was a competitive heat and China, Canada and Italy still failed to beat the Jamaicans team in the other heat in which Jamaica were able to focus on ‘doing enough’. Yohan Blake looks set to lead his team to another gold medal.
