20-year-old Sonay Kartal received a wildcard to the main draw of Wimbledon for her Grand Slam debut after some string recent results on the ITF circuit. Kartal set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 226th this week and she fares a decent chance at the upset against world number 90 Danka Kovinic. The Montenegrin is enjoying a strong year on tour after reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open and then replicating the feat at Roland-Garros but she has yet to win a match at Wimbledon. With just one defeat to Magda Linette last week supplying her grass-court form, Kovinic could be caught out here and the home crowd will be sure to create the right atmosphere for Kartal after seeing the fruits of that labour pay off for Emma Raducanu last season. Take Kartal to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners.
