20-year-old Marta Kostyuk could be one to watch at Indian Wells this week if she can overcome the tough title-to-first-round turnaround that scuppers so many players, particularly younger players, on both tours. The Ukrainian won her maiden WTA title at the Austin Open last weekend to take a five-match winning streak into this first meeting with Rebecca Peterson and it has taken top 10 players, past or present, to oust her from her last six tournaments. 27-year-old Peterson enjoyed a rare run to the Merida Open final two weeks ago, upsetting top seed Magda Linette and Alycia Parks en-route, before finishing runner-up in three sets to Camila Giorgi. The Swede can move back inside the top 100 on tour with a win here and she is well capable of waiting out storms from her opponent to edge through if Kostyuk’s level wobbles. Back Kostyuk to earn at least a set for a suitably cautious move.
