THE PREDICTION

World number six Ons Jabeur was visibly devastated last week in Abu Dhabi as her recurring knee issue hampered her ability to perform. The Tunisian carries the inordinate weight of several nations and communities on her shoulders as an immensely popular tour favourite blazing the trail for Arab players across sport, not just tennis, and the constant threat of a knee injury only adds to that desperation to perform over this period of the calendar. World number 37 Lesia Tsurenko beat a fellow home-from-home hopeful in Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez on Sunday but this is obviously a much bigger test. The 34-year-old has so far struggled to make a dent on top 20 talent this season but she will be well aware of her chances at an upset against a fragile opponent. The likelihood that Jabeur has to retire from this match is high enough to consider leaving it alone altogether but otherwise back the fourth seed to edge through on the assumption that she is fit enough to play.

TIP: ONS JABEUR TO WIN
