Matteo Gigante and Giulio Zeppieri, both 22 years old, have been handed huge opportunities with wildcards to the main draw of the Italian Open on home clay in their native Rome. Gigante set a career-high ATP world ranking of 139th last month off the back of some excellent success on the Challenger circuit on clay but he will be doubly eager to impress after suffering an injury on his main tour debut in Marrakech early last month. Giulio Zeppieri set a career-high ATP world ranking of 110th after an excellent debut at the Australian Open in January, where he upset Dusan Lajovic before a five-set exit to 22nd seed Cam Norrie. Zeppieri has the better experience after losing in each of his last two first rounds here whilst it remains to be seen how Gigante copes with his overall debut. Back Gigante to earn at least a set with less baggage and the better recent form on clay to leave the victor up to chance.
