20-year-old Maria Timofeeva will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 118th after coming back from a set down to stun former champion Caroline Wozniacki on Wednesday. The 27-year-old conceded just three games to 16-year-old Alina Korneeva on Wednesday to back-up a choppier three-setter over 18-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova in the first round, starting 2024 in similar form to how she left 2023 as the WTA Elite Trophy champion in singles and doubles. Haddad-Maia made the semi-finals at Roland-Garros last summer to prove her grit at this level and she can be backed to end Timofeeva’s run in straight sets.
