THE PREDICTION

World number 38 Lin Zhu is the fourth seed this week at the Poland Open and she got her campaign underway strongly with a straight-sets victory over Chinese compatriot Xiyu Wang. The 29-year-old won her maiden WTA title at the Hua Hin Championships back in February after an impressive spell on hardcourts, coming very close to a first major quarter-final at the Australian Open before defeat to Victoria Azarenka, and she will be pleased to return to her favoured surface. Former world number 27 Laura Siegemund is at her best on clay, with two WTA titles claimed on clay from Bastad in 2016 and Stuttgart a year later. Despite coming into Warsaw at world number 153 she has enjoyed some battling results this season and a straight-sets opener over Maja Chwalinska says she will be competitive here. A first meeting between the two is a very hard call but take Zhu to earn at least a set on hardcourt form this season to leave the victor up to chance.
