THE PREDICTION

This is a really interesting battle on paper between world number seven Andrey Rublev and number 11 Jannik Sinner, both of whom are through to the round of 16 without dropping a set. 21-year-old Sinner has pedigree in Miami as a former runner-up to Hubert Hurkacz back in 2021 but Rublev looked set to be in that final before the Pole upset him in the semis. 25-year-old Rublev conceded just three games to Miomir Kecmanovic on Sunday for a statement of intent but the Russian should struggle to have things all his own way against Sinner, whose balance on both wings should limit some of Rublev’s more dependable shots. The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record but an injury saw Sinner withdraw from the third set of their encounter at this stage of Roland-Garros last summer as well as Rublev’s first victory over him at the Vienna Open in 2020. Sinner has won both of their completed matches, so back the Italian to edge things here in what could be a thriller.
