Casper Ruud and Ulrikke Eikeri combined well to edge out Hopman Cup champions Croatia in a vital doubles decider on Monday, changing the landscape a little in this quarter-final. Assuming that Caroline Garcia blasts past Malene Helgo in the opening clash and Ruud finds a way past in-form Adrian Mannarino to level the tie at 1-1 this should be a thrilling showdown between Ruud and Eikeri and French pair Garcia and Edouard Roger-Vasselin – both of whom are Grand Slam champions. 40-year-old Roger-Vasselin’s serve still packs a serious punch in this format whilst Garcia’s intermittent brilliance should be crucial in edging a victory here but it would be wise not to underestimate Norway’s team spirit with some real underdog momentum behind them. Back France to win all the same, although taking them to earn at least a set would be the suitable concession for an accumulator.
