THE PREDICTION

World number four Elena Rybakina was celebrated for being outspoken in her frustrations with being forced to finish her quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina at 3AM at the Canada Masters last week. The Kazakh lost from a set up to eventual runner-up Liudmila Samsonova in the semi-finals the following day , where Samsonova was then forced to play the final exhausted just hours later. Rybakina will be determined to find an extra gear this week after labouring through most of wins last week but this is a very tough opening draw against former world number five Jelena Ostapenko, who came back from a set down to beat Karolina Pliskova. The Latvian won the Birmingham Classic on grass back in June but she has struggled to impose herself fully on tour since, although her first round result may boost confidence on her least effective surface. Rybakina has beaten Ostapenko twice this season to level their head-to-head at 2-2, though, to look the reasonable favourite. Take the Kazakh to win outright, with three of her four matches last week needing deciders.
